Overview

The angle head is an important attachment used on machining centers and milling machines. It enables the tool to rotate at an angle relative to the main spindle axis. This allows operators to perform side milling, drilling and tapping operations on different faces of a workpiece without needing to re-clamp it. The result is faster production and better dimensional accuracy.

Types and Features

Light models weigh between 5 and 15 kilograms and fit well in machines with automatic tool changers. They are preferred for precision work in mold shops. Medium models connect through standard BT40 or BT50 shanks and offer a good balance of torque and weight. Heavy models weighing over 50 kilograms are built for gantry machines performing large-part machining. Adjustable models can be set to any angle, not just 90 degrees, giving flexibility for complex parts.

How to Choose

Begin by reviewing your machine specifications including spindle taper type, torque capacity, and maximum rpm. Then check the accessory dimensions to make sure there is no collision with the machine column or table. Pick a shank style matching your spindle, such as BT30, BT40, BT50, or HSK. If you change angles often during production, choose a unit that works with your automatic changer system.

Replacement and Installation

Place the shank into the machine spindle and lock it with the standard clamping system. Make sure all locating surfaces are clean and smooth. Run the unit at a slow speed for about ten minutes so that lubricant spreads evenly through the gears and bearings. Then slowly increase speed to the normal working range while watching for any vibration.

Maintenance Tips

Apply the recommended grease every 200 to 500 working hours. Check bearings and gears for signs of wear, heat, or strange sounds. Wipe the outside clean of metal chips and fluid after each shift. Keep the unit in a dry place with a light oil coating when not in use. Turn the output shaft by hand once a week during long storage periods.
