Overview
Machine tool bellows are protective accessories that cover guide rails and ball screws on CNC equipment. They expand and contract as the machine axis moves providing ongoing protection from workshop conditions. Bellows are widely used on machining centers lathes and grinders where precision parts need guarding.
Types
Common bellows types include fabric covers rubber covers steel telescopic covers and round covers. Fabric bellows use nylon or polyester material for lightweight and flexible daily use. Rubber covers provide good liquid sealing for wet grinding environments. Steel telescopic covers use metal plates for heavy duty applications.
Selection
Begin by measuring the total travel distance of the axis that needs protection. Select the cover material based on your workshop conditions and the fluids used. Consider the axis movement speed when choosing a cover design. Verify the cover dimensions fit within the available space around the guide rail.
Install
Position the machine axis at the midpoint of its travel before starting work. Remove the old cover by releasing the clamps on both ends. Clean the mounting area and check the rail surface for any signs of wear. Fit the new cover by aligning it with the mounting points and securing all fasteners.
