Circular Saw Blade Selection: Types and Applications Guide
Guide to choosing circular saw blades for woodworking and metalworking operations.
Circular saw blade selection affects cut quality, safety, and blade life. Diameter must match machine specs and material thickness. Woodworking blades range 180 to 350mm while metal cutting runs 250 to 500mm.
High tooth count blades with 60 to 100 teeth produce smooth finishes in hardwoods and laminates. Low count with 14 to 40 teeth cut faster but rougher. Tooth geometry includes flat-top for ripping, alternate bevel for crosscutting, and triple-chip for abrasive materials.
Carbide-tipped blades last 10 to 20 times longer than high-speed steel. Diamond-tipped blades serve extremely abrasive materials like fiber cement. Always verify arbor hole matches spindle diameter precisely to prevent vibration.
Clean blades after every few hours of cutting with degreaser and nylon brush. Inspect carbide tips for chipping and check runout with dial indicator. Professional sharpening typically costs 30 to 50 percent of new blade price after 200 to 500 hours.
