Types of CNC Engraving Machines
CNC engraving machines are classified by cutting method into router-type and spindle-type machines. Router machines use high-speed spindles above 20000 RPM for cutting wood, plastics, and aluminum. Spindle engraving machines operate at lower speeds with higher torque for engraving metals. Laser engraving uses focused beams for non-contact marking.
Industrial Applications
Profile engraving machines produce signage, nameplates, decorative panels, and precision components. In woodworking they carve patterns on furniture and doors. Metal engraving creates molds, dies, and identification tags. Electronics uses precision engraving for circuit board prototyping.
Operation and Programming
These machines are programmed using CAM software that converts drawings into toolpaths. Operators select tool diameter, step-over distance, and cutting depth based on material. Strategies include contour cutting, pocket clearing, and V-carving.
Material Guidelines
Wood cuts best with single-flute carbide bits at high speed. Acrylic needs polished tools for clean edges. Aluminum uses carbide V-bits with mist coolant.
