Their performance depends not only on inherent precision but largely on correct maintenance and operation by personnel. Proper maintenance extends component service life, extends wear cycles of mechanical parts, prevents sudden catastrophic failures, ensures long-term stable operation, and fully realizes machining precision advantages while maintaining high production efficiency and product quality stability.

Environmental Requirements

CNC machines require a clean, dry, constant-temperature, vibration-free environment. Keep electronic components away from direct sunlight exposure as UV radiation degrades electronic boards and displays. Maintain low humidity levels since moisture causes corrosion and electrical shorts in sensitive circuitry. Power supply fluctuation must stay within plus or minus 10 percent of rated voltage. Stable voltage is critical because voltage spikes and brownouts can damage CNC controllers and servo drives.

Point Inspection Management System

Implement a structured point inspection system based on ten key elements: Establish fixed inspection points by scientifically identifying all potential failure locations on the machine. Set fixed quantitative standards for each point including gap clearances, temperatures, pressure values, flow rates, and fastener tightness. Define fixed inspection intervals with some points checked multiple times per shift and others monthly or quarterly. Specify fixed inspection items for each check point. Assign fixed responsible personnel whether operators, maintenance staff, or specialized technicians. Document fixed inspection methods including visual observation, standard instruments, or precision measurement tools. Daily Inspection Checklist

Check the hydraulic system for normal pressure readings and smooth operation. Verify the spindle lubrication system power light is on and the oil pressure pump runs normally. If the spindle lubrication power light is off, keep the spindle stopped and immediately contact the mechanical engineer. Confirm the guideway lubrication system delivers proper oil flow to all sliding surfaces. Check the cooling system for proper coolant flow rate and temperature. Verify the pneumatic system maintains normal air pressure within specification range.

Weekly Inspection Tasks

Clear metal chips and iron filings from all machine components. Remove external debris and dust accumulation from surfaces, covers, and protective way covers. Clean the machine exterior to prevent chip buildup that could enter precision guideways. Conduct a proper inspection and verification of the spindle lubrication system including oil level, filter condition, and pump operation. Inspect chip conveyors and coolant filtration systems for proper function and cleanliness.

Operator Competency Requirements

Operators must maintain broad knowledge across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Ongoing training on new CNC systems and control technologies is essential for keeping skills current. Each CNC type has specific operating procedures that must be strictly followed. First-time use or long-idle machines must run empty for several minutes before operation to distribute lubricant and verify normal function. Always follow the specified startup and shutdown sequences in the correct order.

Idle Period Management

Even without production tasks, idle machines must be powered on and dry-run for approximately one hour periodically. The heat generated during dry running reduces internal humidity and prevents moisture damage to electronic components. New machines should be used intensively during the warranty period to expose and address any manufacturing weaknesses early. Implement the Three-Fixed management system: fixed personnel, fixed post, and fixed responsibility for each machine.
