I. Routine Inspection and Maintenance

Quarterly Inspection

  • Check all mounting points for tightness; vibration can loosen hardware over time
  • Inspect wiring terminals for signs of corrosion, overheating, or loosening
  • Clean sensor surfaces with a dry cloth; never use water or solvents directly on sensors
  • Verify cable glands and conduit connections are tight to prevent moisture ingress
  • Check that sensor apertures are free of debris or foreign objects

Annual Maintenance

  • Perform full calibration verification across the measurement range
  • Inspect internal components if accessible; check for signs of overheating or component degradation
  • Test insulation resistance between sensor terminals and housing
  • Review measurement accuracy trends and plan replacement if drift is detected
  • Update maintenance records with all inspection and calibration results

II. Common Measurement Issues

Zero Offset/Drift:

  • Perform auto-zero or manual zero adjustment per manufacturer instructions
  • Check for residual magnetism in the core (degauss if needed)

Inaccurate Readings:

  • Verify conductor is centered in the sensor aperture
  • Check for external magnetic field interference from nearby equipment
  • Ensure measurement does not exceed sensor rated range
  • Verify signal cable shielding is properly grounded at one end only

No Output:

  • Check power supply voltage and polarity
  • Verify all wiring connections are secure
  • Test with a known current source to confirm sensor functionality
  • Inspect for physical damage or water ingress
