Food Milling Machine Operating Guide and Safety Procedures
Food milling machines are used for grinding grains, herbs, spices, and other food materials into powder. Proper operation and maintenance ensure consistent product quality and equipment longevity.
I. Pre-Operation Preparation
- Read Manual: Thoroughly read the operating manual before first use. Follow all manufacturer specifications.
- Check Fasteners: Before each startup, verify that all screws, bolts, and fasteners on grinding discs, scrapers, and housings are tight.
- Circuit Protection: Ensure external overload/circuit breaker protection is installed to protect the motor and operator safety.
- Material Preparation: Materials should be properly dried and free of stones, metal, and other foreign objects. Damp materials may clog the machine.
- Grounding: Verify proper grounding connection before operation.
II. Operating Procedures
- Start Sequence: Start the machine and wait for it to reach normal operating speed before feeding material. Listen for abnormal sounds.
- Feeding: Control feed rate carefully. Overfeeding can cause motor overload and stalling.
- Motor Direction: Verify the motor rotates in the counterclockwise direction (as viewed from the drive end).
- Monitoring: Observe the machine during operation. If unusual vibration or noise occurs, stop immediately.
- Power Failure: If power fails, turn off the main switch and clear residual material from the grinding chamber before restarting.
III. Cleaning and Maintenance
- After each use, thoroughly clean the interior. Never wash directly with water; use dry cleaning methods and allow ventilation.
- Store the machine on a stable, level surface to minimize vibration.
- When not in use for extended periods, disconnect from power. Store flat, not inverted, without heavy objects on top.
- Regularly inspect grinding discs, scrapers, and other wear parts. Replace if severely worn or damaged.
- Ensure roller bearings are properly lubricated. After approximately 500 hours of operation on new rollers, clean and inspect all roller bearings.
IV. Safety Warnings
- Only trained and qualified personnel should operate the machine
- Keep hands away from feed opening and discharge areas
- Do not bypass or disable safety interlocks
- Wear appropriate PPE including dust mask, safety glasses, and hearing protection
- Establish a documented safety operating system with regular inspections
