Photosensitive Resin Selection for SLA and DLP 3D Printing
How to choose the right photopolymer resin for your resin 3D printer and application needs.
Resin 3D printing using SLA, DLP, or LCD technology produces parts with exceptional surface quality and fine detail resolution. Selecting the correct resin formulation ensures optimal results for your specific application and printer model.
The first requirement is wavelength compatibility. Consumer LCD printers typically use 405nm UV LEDs while professional SLA systems operate at 355nm or 375nm. Mismatched wavelengths cause incomplete curing and print failures. Always verify resin specifications match your printer light source.
Standard resins at 100 to 200 yuan per liter work well for visual prototypes and display models. Tough and ABS-like resins deliver impact resistance and durability approaching injection-molded plastic, suited for functional prototypes. Dental resins carry biocompatibility certification for intraoral applications including surgical guides and temporary restorations.
Post-processing requires washing in isopropyl alcohol for 10 to 30 minutes followed by UV curing for 30 to 60 minutes. Engineering resins may need thermal post-curing to achieve full mechanical properties. Factor this equipment and time into your workflow planning.
Handle all liquid resins with nitrile gloves and adequate ventilation as they are skin irritants. Store in opaque UV-blocking containers between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Proper storage extends shelf life to 6 to 12 months for most formulations.
