Rolling Mill Assembly Part 2: Gap Adjustment, Operation and Maintenance
Part 2 covering roll gap adjustment device, support base setup, roll change operations, and critical maintenance notes for rolling mills.
# Rolling Mill Assembly Part 2: Gap Adjustment, Operation and Maintenance
## 2. Roll Gap Adjustment Device
The roll gap adjustment device includes two worm gear boxes with hydraulic motor drive. When the worm rotates one revolution, the roll gap changes by 0.2516mm.
## 3. Support Base and Guide Guard Beam
### 3.1 Support Base
The support base connects the mill to the frame locking device. Balance blocks with spherical contact surfaces allow self-alignment.
### 3.2 Guide Guard Beam
The guide guard beam uses a lead screw for left-right adjustment. Surface must be parallel to rolling line within 0.1mm/m.
## 4. Operation and Maintenance
### 4.1 Pre-Assembly at Roll Change Station
The roll change device consists of track bases, brackets, frames, and carriages.
**Roll change procedure:**
1. Adjust mill to roll change center distance
2. Fix roll system to brackets via bolts
3. Retract cylinders to disengage bearing housing from old roller
4. Extend transport cylinder to move new roller to position
5. Extend frame cylinders to install new roller
6. Complete axial fixing and lift away
### 4.2 Overall Assembly
Follow this sequence: heat bearing inner ring to 100-130°C; assemble roll housing onto tie rods with equal-height spacers; adjust balance force.
### 4.3 Frame Change and Pass Groove Change
For flat roll use, transport horizontally. For vertical roll use, flip 90 degrees. When changing pass grooves, loosen bolts and reposition.
## 5. Critical Maintenance Notes
- Clean all components with kerosene before assembly
- Alternately tighten bolts with final torque no less than 120Nm
- Cool roller at pass grooves with water (bearing temperature below 80°C)
- Fill all gaps around press-down nut with grease
- Completely disassemble, clean, and re-grease during annual maintenance
