Complete safety guidelines for operating carding machines, including hazard identification, operating norms, quality requirements, and emergency response protocols.

Hazard Identification

Carding machine operations involve several risk factors: fibers and flying dust exposed to light or metal sparks may cause workshop fires; sharp card clothing and rotating parts can cause bodily injury; dust is released during production requiring mask usage; and electrical cabinets contain high voltage requiring professional maintenance only.

Operating Standards

Only personnel who have completed carding operation training may operate the machine. Long hair must be protected, and loose clothing or accessories including rings are prohibited. Before startup, clear the machine surface and interior of any tools or foreign objects. All safety guard doors must be closed with functional limit switches during startup and operation. Ensure no person is within the machine's operating zone before starting.

Key Safety Rules During Operation

When feeding lap ends, fingers must be bent using the back of the hand to push the lap head — never extend fingers near or under the feed roller. Do not clean the licker-in, cylinder, doffer, stripping roller, or return auto-stop devices while the machine is running. If cleaning is necessary, stop the machine and wait until it is completely stationary. Do not stand on or climb on the machine during operation. If unusual odors are detected, immediately shut down the dust filter fan and conduct a full inspection while reporting to the supervisor.

Maintenance Safety

All maintenance work including cleaning may only be performed when the machine is stopped, powered off, and safety measures are in place. After completing maintenance, ensure all safety protection devices are correctly restored and check their sensitivity. Used waste oil must be collected and disposed of according to environmental protection requirements. Excess oil on lubrication points must be immediately cleaned.

Emergency Response

If an accident occurs, immediately stop operations, perform self-rescue and mutual aid, and report to the responsible person. If fire is detected, immediately shut off the dust filter fan, stop feeding cotton, turn off adjacent machines, use fire extinguishers correctly, and simultaneously alert authorities and report to the supervisor.
